ZHIK- The Best Gear I Have Ever Worn!

I was incredibly fortunate to have been sponsored on my Pacific Ocean row by Zhik clothing and wet weather gear.  Zhik manufacture the highest quality and most comfortable gear I have ever worn, and after wearing it day in and day out for 60 days of around the clock rowing ( two hours on the oars and two hours off the oars), it was more than up to the demands of the job!  From their caps and visors, to their top of the range ocean line, Isotak Ocean,  it is clear that the comfort and fit is just so much better than other products on the market.  The Pacific threw just about everything at me that it could out there, and whether it was persistent (and very large) waves of cold water washing over me, driving rain, or a Norwest wind from the Arctic that just wouldn't quit, I stayed as warm and comfortable as I possibly could in those conditions.  I had a range of Hydrophobic and Hydrobase thermals with me to wear under my Isotak wet weather gear, and in those particularly stormy first 21 days, I never had a day on deck without a full compliment of  both layers on my sore and tired body.  When you can wear any clothing at sea for 21 days straight without any chafing or sores developing, it is worth keeping and worth telling others about!  My only regret is that I didn't  discover Zhik gear 2 ocean rows ago!   Thank you Mike and the team at ZHIK!!!!!!

I'd like to thank my chiropractor, trainer, and gym!

When John Isner defeated Juan Martin Del Potro in last year's ATP Masters final in Cincinatti, he made a point of thanking his chiropractor during the trophy ceremony.  Like Isner, I too want to thank my wonderful chiropractor Anna Murphy and the team at Balance Chiropractic, Waiuku for all they have done to get this ocean rower successfully across another ocean!  The treatments before and after my trip have contributed to me feeling better during and after this row than I have after any other ocean crossing.  Also, the supplements and rehydration drink went a long way towards keeping me as healthy as possible in a very inhospitable ocean environment.  Thanks team!

My trainer Fiona Compston, formerly of Waiuku and now training the lucky folks over in Sydney, also deserves much of the credit for the Pacific crossing.  If she hadn't tortured me (read trained me) in the most 'authentic of ways' at the gym, I don't think I would have had the strength required to row against the wind and sea for 21 days straight, and then row westward for 40 more days after that!  In addition to carrying Fiona everywhere she needed to go, she had me lifting weights on wobble boards and giving my core a real work out.  I wasn't nearly as sore in my lats from the constant rocking of the boat as I have been on previous rows either.  You're a legend Fi!

Linda from Waiuku Health & Fitness was behind this venture from the start.  She supplied me with plenty of protein powder to make sure my muscles were as big and strong as I  could possibly get them before departure, and she sponsored me lots of powder for my journey too.  Linda is also a staunch supporter of Charlotte's and has had incentives at the gym for members to join and/or take up indoor rowing challenges to get more donations into Char's fund.  Linda has also had a donation box at the gym throughout the duration of my row.  Thank you for everything Linda!
